Wrong quest

To Wendy Doromal:

The years that you had been advocating against human injustices in our homeland had been nothing but pure self-interest and vengeance on your part. I wonder what the local indigenous people of Rota have to say about your past histories as a teacher back then. You continue to advocate against inhumane atrocities in our homeland but you ignore the fact that there are far more atrocities in Third World countries. It is a shame that you chose a small island, my homeland, to play out your Nobel Peace Prize quest, but you truly do not have the heart or courage to stand up and go after other countries, where fatal atrocities take place every minute of our lives. Atrocities such as rape, murder, kidnapping, torture, and hunger are beyond realm, Mrs. Doromal. The war on terrorism is a global issue and is of a top priority for everyone. World peace has to be stabilized in order for mankind to continue its existence on planet Earth. It is such a shame that you chose my homeland, the CNMI, a tiny speck, a dot, a tip of a pencil on the world map in which other countries have no idea it even exists, Mrs. Doromal. Your statements that both “U.S. federal government and foreign organizations collaborated and assisted tremendously in the passing of a federal law taking control of our Immigration system” supported our allegations that it was in fact instigated by all of you. This is part of the reasons why we the Taotao Tano fight all of you. Let’s not forget that we, the local indigenous Northern Mariana descent people of the land are U.S. citizens who pledged and swore sovereignty to the United States of America, Mrs. Doromal.

Today, as if you are not satisfied with the damage you’ve instilled and left behind, you, along with your instigators such as Human Dignity, Dekada, and Tina Sablan, are seeking to garner some type of “federal permanent status” for long-term alien workers. I do not understand why you treat “green cards” as if it is a privilege or food stamps that can be handed out upon demand. Taotao Tano has every reason to believe that a majority of these foreign organizations are here illegally and, with the help of the Federal Ombudsman and a lawyer, they managed to prolong their stay using frivolous complaints of labor abuses.

I say this to all of you: Be mindful of what you ask or demand for, it might just bite back, as in the case when our voices were heard clearly when we said no to the grandfathering non-immigrant provisions. All of you are now actively involved in seeking a permanent residency status, “green cards” through President Bush but the people of the United States recently spoke and said no way! If 12 million illegal aliens were rejected amnesty by U.S. Congress, what makes you so sure that we the local indigenous U.S. Northern Mariana descent people won’t? Stop giving people false hope for you had not won anything other than destroy our homeland’s reputation nationwide and you should all be ashamed of yourselves for it is a reality that all of your quest is nothing other than the granting of green cards and self-recognition.

As for those elected leaders in our homeland who support this movement, I assure you that their constituents are watching like hawks and election is near. And to all of you my detractors, I do not have an imaginary little friend sitting next to me or a “ghostwriter” as you all assume, but I assure you that my passion, courage and determination to fight the injustices inflicted upon my people will not be left unheard and using the only thing I possess, which is the knowledge to write from deep within my heart and soul, is the ultimate sacrifice one has to endure when faced with the current issues taking place.

Mrs. Doromal, stop using my homeland to gain Nobel Peace Prizes or worldwide recognition, for you have not fought a real cause other than self-interest satisfaction. The federal control is nothing other than national security border control.

Gregorio Cruz President, Taotao Tano
