The Pacific Games Council executive board is set to review its sports programs after every major Games.

This was announced by Council executive board director Andrew Minogue in an email sent to Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association president Michael A. White.

In the email, given to the Saipan Tribune, Minogue said the purpose of the executive board’s review is to obtain a report from the sports committee for its consideration of each sports program.

“For the purposes of determining the compulsory sports played in the Pacific the preferred position is that these sports will represent the top-ranked sports in order of priority of participation by PGAs over the last two major games,” said Minogue.

He added that for optional sports to be considered inclusion on the Games’ sports programs they must be played at the competitive level by at least 25 percent of the members of the Pacific Games Association.

Minogue is inviting each member federation to send their own views or recommendations to the executive board not later than June 30. the executive board will then present its review to the PGC in its annual general meeting on Sept. 2 in Rarotonga, the Cook Islands.

White in another email to NMASA members, said representatives or presidents of each sports federation should inform him and they have any suggestion of changes to the Pacific Games or Pacific Mini Games’ sports program. “Let me know and I will raise them with the sport committee.”

NMASA is set to hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 5, at 7pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

In other news, the PGC executive board also restructured the sports committee, which is set to also meet in Rarotonga on Sept. 19, with Jim Tobin of the Federated States of Micronesia as the new chairman.

Members of the sports committee are Niko Palomo of Samoa, the Cook Islands’ Mark Brown, Jean Bernard Fukui of New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna’s Manuele Tuia,a and Yvonne Mullins as a co-opted member.
