Trench Tech offers summer classes
Trench Tech Purebred Saipan Gym will be offering a mixed martial arts summer program for kids’ age 10 to 17 starting next month at their new facility at the Afetnas Square in San Antonio.
Trench Tech co-instructor Cuki Alvarez said they will offer the three-month long summer classes from Mondays through Saturdays from 3pm to 5pm.
Wrestling, grappling,/jujitsu (ground fighting submission techniques), grappling and jujitsu, boxing, kick boxing (Muay Thai), self-defense are the disciplines that will be offered six days a week.
The gym will be closed every Sunday but private lessons are available on the said day at $25 per hour.
Aside from Alvarez, the other instructors are Randy Taylor, Tetsuji Kato, Jason Tarkong, and Joe Ocampo.
Children are required to bring a book or magazine of their choice, a pencil, notebook, own mouthpiece, towels, and water bottles. Board shorts that are not too baggy and no zippers on pockets, a t-shirt or rash guard, and zories are the required attire.
The training schedule that will be followed are 3pm to 3:30pm reading and study time; 3:30pm to 4pm stretching and warm ups; and 4pm to 5pm MMA class and training.
Alvarez said that, although the kids would be exercising and training in MMA, it is also important that they would also gain more than physical health. “It is Trench Tech’s goal for every child to gain awareness in discipline , respect, self confidence, and better self esteem from this whole experience.
Alvarez said Trench Tech strives to honor and respect the Fokai and Purebred mission statement of, “Exhaust the body. Proceed the mind, and cultivate the spirit.”
“It is through these adage that we train our minds, body and soul in gaining mastery of the disciplines and practice self respect. When one respects himself, they can ultimately respect others.”
