Crime Stoppers is seeking the community’s help for information on individual(s) involved in illegal fishing at the Bird Island Sanctuary (includes Bird Island and the Grotto). Pictures taken at the Grotto site by local divers show evidence of mono filament fishing line, hooks and primitive sinkers, used for fishing.

Crime Stoppers would like to remind the community that it is against the law to fish in sanctuaries. It is also illegal to use fishing devises, such as explosives, poisons (cyanide, bleach, Clorox, derris, saponin), electric shocking devices, scuba spear fishing, hookah, drag net/beach seine, trap net, surround net and gill net.

Anyone having information about this crime may call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 234-7272. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Caller ID is not used. All calls remain anonymous. (Crime Stoppers)
