14th Coast Guard District gets new chief

[B]HONOLULU[/B]—In a ceremony held Thursday at Sand Island in Honolulu, Rear Adm. Sally Brice-O’Hara was relieved as the commander of the Fourteenth Coast Guard District.
Brice-O’Hara is being promoted to a position in Washington, D.C.
Taking the helm of the Fourteenth District, which includes Coast Guard units in Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, Saipan, Tokyo, South Korea and Singapore, is Rear Adm. Manson Brown. He returns to Hawaii after spending the past two years as the commander of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Maintenance and Logistics Command Pacific in Alameda, Calif.
Brown was the commanding officer of Sector Honolulu and the U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port, Honolulu, from 2005 to 2006.
Brice-O’Hara was commander of the Fourteenth District for two years and will next serve as the Coast Guard’s Assistant Commandant for Operations, a three-star admiral’s position.
The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored military event preserved by the rich heritage of naval tradition. It is a formal custom that is designed to strengthen the respect of authority, which is vital to any military organization. The climax of the ceremony is reached when both officers read their orders, face one another, salute and transfer responsibility of the command. [B][I](USCG)[/I][/B]
