A petition is currently being circulated on Tinian calling for the Senate Committee on Governmental Appointments to confirm Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s appointment of lawyer Perry Inos to the Superior Court bench, a statement issued yesterday said.

The action, according to the statement, was initiated by a Tinian businessman, who says he is supporting Inos’ appointment due to the need for experienced jurists in the CNMI courts. The statement did not identify the businessman.

“Inos is a well-know CNMI attorney who is exceptionally suited for the position, his supporters say,” as he has had his own law practice since 1997 and has served as assistant attorney general for the Office of the Attorney General’s Criminal Division and had been an associate attorney in the law offices of Supreme Court Justice John A. Manglona, the statement said.

In only three days, the petition has already garnered over one hundred signatures, the statement said.

Before this, a Saipan lawmaker urged the Senate to confirm Inos’ appointment to the CNMI Superior Court.

Rep. David Apatang had said Inos is “an excellent choice and a great addition to the Commonwealth’s bench.”

He said the 13 years Inos has spent practicing law in the Commonwealth makes him qualified for the post of Superior Court judge. Inos initially worked as a government prosecutor and later, entered into private practice as a defense attorney.

Inos has been in private practice since 1997. Before that, he worked as a teacher at Rota High School, student coordinator at the Rota campus of the Northern Marianas College.

Inos received his high school diploma from Rota High School in 1983 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree, major in business management, from the University of Guam in 1987. He attended the University of New Mexico School of Law and received his law degree in 1994.

He is married to Debra Inos and they have three children. He is the son of Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos and nephew of Finance Secretary Eloy S. Inos. (PR)
