‘Delegation’s visit is good opportunity for dialogue’
Vice Speaker Joseph Deleon Guerrero said the visit of a delegation of U.S. congressional staffers is a good opportunity for the CNMI to open up dialogue.
“I look forward to any dialogue with the federal government. If they can pay for their fare to come here rather than us going there, that is even better,” Deleon Guerrero told Saipan Tribune.
By holding a dialogue, he said, this will help the CNMI explore technical assistance and keep the visiting delegation abreast of the Commonwealth’s problems.
“I think the only way they are finding out [the problems] is by reading the papers. Thankfully, there are online papers,” the vice speaker said.
The delegation will be on Saipan Monday to discuss key issues relating to the forthcoming federalization of the local immigration rules.
The delegation is composed of Rep. Madeleine Bordallo (Guam) and staff of several committees. The delegation members are set to meet with Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and Saipan Chamber of Commerce officials.
Deleon Guerrero said it is expected that there will be discussions on what the CNMI is doing about its problems and what assistance the government may get from the federal side.
He added that it is always good to sit down on the same table with a federal delegation.
