Sherlyn Jones is women’s August golf tourney winner

Sherlyn Jones won the CNMI Women’s Golf Association August Ace of the Month Tournament held last Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.

Jones edged runner-up Terue Ukita by a stroke after her gross score of 86 (42-44) was sliced by her 13 handicap, giving her a net score of 73.

Ukita settled for second place with her 74 net, which she carded after shooting a gross of 85 (47-48). She has a handicap of 11.

Terry Tudela, Song Eun Joo, and Doll Yamagishi completed the Top 5 with net scores of 76 (46-45, 91 gross, 15 handicap), 77 (47-45, 92 gross, 15 handicap), and 78 (50-49, 99 gross, 21 handicap), respectively.

A total of 19 CWGA members took part in the August Ace.

The scores of the other participants, with their net scores in parenthesis, are as follows: Lourdes Kim (80), Kyang A. Yang (80), Shiori Onoue (81), Yuko Togawa (81), Kyung Ran Soe (82), Sachiko Adachi (83), Noriko Togawa (85), Kimiko Abe (85), Bennet Seman (90), and Lorraine Babauta (90).

Matilde Hocog (77), Su Jeong Yi (77), Wang Lin (78), and Pil Sun Kitami (78) did not qualify for the Top 10 points system despite carding low scores because they failed to submit their scorecards for handicap purposes, according to CWGA.

Established in March 2007, CWGA is a nonprofit organization founded to promote, encourage, and introduce women to the sport of golf in the CNMI.

The organization intends to accomplish the following: 1. Promote civic and community interest in golf; 2. Establish and encourage competition and good sportsmanship; 3. Promote and provide social functions of the members and their families; 4. Promote youth golf activities; and 5. To do any or all things necessary and proper to accomplish its purpose and intention.

CWGA also commits its members to abide by a set of values that will further enrich a golfer’s performance, attitude, and conduct-adopted form the USA Junior Golf Association.

The set of values members of CWGA are committed to faithfully are as follows: perseverance; sportsmanship; respect; honesty; judgment; responsibility; reliance; courtesy; and sincerity.
