Voters and community members who are interested in learning more about the candidates vying to represent the CNMI in Washington DC are invited to attend the U.S. Delegate Forum, which is being organized through collaborative efforts of the Office of Youth Affairs, The Associated Students of the Northern Marianas College, and the CNMI Youth Congress.

The Forum will be held on Oct. 8, 2008 at 6:30pm at the Multi-Purpose Center. Doors will open at 5pm. There is no fee for admission.

For the first time, the forum will also be televised live to Rota and Tinian. This live broadcast is supported by federal funds through the Administration for Native Americans through NMC’s partnership with PTI. Rota and Tinian residents who wish to watch the forum live must arrive at the NMC Instructional Sites in Rota or Tinian before 6pm.

Candidates who have confirmed their participation include Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council member Felipe Atalig, Ind.; former high school teacher John Davis, Ind.; talk show host John DLR. Gonzales, Ind.; former Judge Juan T. Lizama, Ind.; former Election Commission executive director Gregorio C. Sablan, Ind.; Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio, Republican; businessman Chong Won, Ind., and former senator David Cing. Sen. Luis Crisostimo will not be participating.

The format of the forum will follow a question-and-answer arrangement, whereby a moderator will ask a question and each participating candidate will have a turn at answering the question asked. The questions will not be provided to the candidates before the forum.

The questions asked will cover a host of issues that are timely, relevant, and important to the people—and more particularly the youth—of the CNMI. These include the state of the CNMI’s educational system, economic conditions, the power predicament, and other issues. (NMC)
