CUC to create new website
Plans are underway to revamp the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s website, saving time for customers and money for CUC.
The new website will list power and water outage schedules, procurement purchases, and allow customers to make online payments, CUC executive director Antonio Muña said.
Because everything will be done electronically, CUC can cut back on personnel, ultimately saving the corporation money.
“It’s something we would really be looking at from a cost saving and a time standpoint,” Muña added.
There are security concerns, though, he said, adding that things need to be thought through. It is important people will be able to make payments without fear, he added.
A common complaint from customers is the long lines to make payments at CUC’s Dandan office, but the website should help people save time, Muña said.
Once CUC meets with a website designer, Muna said things should move along quickly.
“I’m sure we’re not inventing the wheel,” he added.
The Guam Power Authority has an extensive website. In addition to a rate calculator and an online payment option, the site lists the power rates, current and scheduled outages, procurement bids, frequently asked questions, and audited and unaudited financial statements, among other things.
Also, the site includes information on how to understand the utility bill, as well as GPA’s standards and regulations.
In August, Rep. Francisco S. Dela Cruz introduced a bill in the House of Representative requiring CUC to create a website that would allow customers to pay bills online.
