5.2 earthquake hits Alamagan Wednesday

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale hit the Alamagan Island in the Northern Mariana Islands Wednesday morning.

The earthquake occurred Oct. 8, at 10:48am, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter was located 95 km (60 miles) east-southeast of Pagan, 135 km (85 miles) southeast of Agrihan, 315 km (195 miles) north-northeast of Saipan, and 535 km (330 miles) north-northeast of Hagatña, Guam, with a depth of 25.9 km (16.1 miles).

There were no immediate reports of damage in the neighboring populated islands of Tinian and Saipan.

A powerful 7.1 earthquake occurred about 215 miles south-southeast of Guam last year. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B]
