The Saipan Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for a workshop on Thursday aimed at teaching local business people how to use the Internet and e-mail to reach new customers.

The workshop, titled Digital Dollars: How to Turn E-mail Into Gold, will take place at the chamber’s conference room in Garapan Oct. 30. Vincent Castro of the local marketing and advertising firm Hafacast will give a presentation on Web-based marketing strategies businesses can employ to bolster their advertising efforts.

“Especially with the economy continuing to go downhill, we’re going to see people looking for lower cost alternatives to traditional advertising,” the chamber’s executive director, Kyle Calabrese, said in an interview, adding that Internet marketing can give businesses “a minimal expense way to increase sales without becoming a spam artist.”

In addition, he said, the workshop will give business people ideas on how to ‘build on their existing customer base” through Web-based marketing plans.

Seats at the workshop are limited to the first 30 guests. Entry will cost $10 for chamber members and $15 for non-members. To make reservations, contact chamber coordinator Tina Salas at coordinator@saipanchamber.com.
