Couple nabbed for ‘ice’ trafficking, possession
Police arrested on Friday a man for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine or “ice” and his wife for possession of “ice.”
Zhauo Fan Zhang, 29, alias Mr. Jun, was apprehended for illegal possession of a controlled substance and trafficking of a controlled substance. His wife, Ying Lian Yao, 30, was detained for illegal possession of a controlled substance.
Zhang and his wife, both Chinese, were brought yesterday afternoon for a bail hearing before Superior Court associate judge David Wiseman.
Wiseman imposed a $30,000 cash bail for the temporary liberty of Zhang and $10,000 cash bail for Yao.
Preliminary hearing was set for Nov. 17 at 9am.
Detective Norman S. Rasiang stated in his report that on Oct. 30, 2008, members of the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Bureau Narcotics Unit conducted a controlled purchase of “ice” from Zhang using a “confidential source.”
Rasiang said the confidential source was able to buy $200 worth of “ice” from Zhang at a parking lot of a restaurant in Chalan Laulau.
Rasaing said that last Wednesday the same confidential source was again able to purchase $200 worth of “ice” from Zhang at a store in Koblerville.
Last Friday, Superior Court associate judge Kenneth Govendo issued an arrest warrant for Zhang for trafficking “ice.”
Last Friday at 12:23pm, Local Drug Enforcement Task Force, with the assistance of CIB detectives, spotted Zhang’s vehicle and pulled it over at the airport road.
Zhang was served with the arrest warrant, while his wife, Yao, who was the passenger, allegedly yielded “ice” concealed in a newspaper in her pocket.
The report did not mention how much “ice” was found in Yao’s possession.
