Mobil Oil Mariana Islands has donated $1,500 to the Ayuda Network to help pay for t-shirts for the “Don’t Be a Turkey Walk” on Nov. 29.

The money will help pay for t-shirts given to the first 200 participants, said Diana Camacho, acting executive director of Ayuda.

Cecile Bamba Suda, manager of the Public and Government Affairs for Mobil Marianas, said the company is happy to support health awareness, including diabetes.

“Health is one of our core focuses,” she said. “We’re trying to put more focus and pick our partners.”

She said Mobil is so adamant about helping with heath services that it might increase funding in the future.

“Because health is a big part of our focus, even if it means other programs don’t benefit, but because of what [the Ayuda Network and Diabetes Coalition] does with diabetes, I think the company would be willing to increase funding,” Suda said.

It’s important to focus on the youth when it comes to diabetes, said George Cruz, chairman of the Commonwealth Diabetes Coalition.

“Diabetes is something that has affected all of our Pacific Islanders…if not in out adults, then in our youth,” he said.

The Don’t Be a Turkey Walk, in its eight-year, will offer a 5-kilometer or 10-kilometer walk.
