Sakudi, Brotherhood players sweep MVP awards
Belau Amateur Softball Association concluded the 2008 Budweiser BASA Men’s and Women’s Softball League with an award ceremony at the Dandan Elementary School Ballfield Sunday with Sakudi and Brotherhood bringing home the most trophies.
Jerry Ayuyu, who blasted two homers in Brotherhood’s 11-4 win over Man Amigos in the deciding game of the best-of-three title series in the men’s division, walked away with the Finals MVP.
Teammate J.J. Laniyo took home the regular season MVP.
In the women’s division, Sakudi pitcher Bego Camacho claimed the Finals MVP plum, while another Sakudi player—Jenny Palacios—notched the regular season MVP trophy.
Camacho and Palacios helped Sakudi edge the Hitters in the do-or-die Game 3, 4-2.
Other individual awardees in the men’s division were Thunderson Soku, Julian Camacho, Ben Taisacan, Payton Sakuma, Roque Camacho, Vinny Sablan, and Bill Limes.
Soku was the batting champion going 24-for-39 in the regular season for a batting average of .615.
Julian Camacho of Brotherhood had the most runs scored with 14, while Taisacan scored the most doubles (4) and triples (4).
Ayuyu was the home run king making six round-trippers, while Laniyo earned his second individual trophy after topping the RBIs race.
Payton Sakuma topped the strikeouts category striking out 16 batters, while PTI’s Roque Camacho led the league in pitching with his 0.90 ERA. Sablan and Limes were named Coach and Manager of the Year, respectively.
In the women’s division, Sakudi’s Pauline Tudela ruled the batting race with her average of .625 after hitting 15-for-24.
Teammates Bert Camacho led the league in runs scored with 13, while, Jenny Palacios ranked first in the most doubles (4) and triples (2) scored.
Mellisa Benjamin was the homerun queen with her two homers, while Ohn Sakau teammates Merselyn Santos and Roquita Santos were tied with the most RBIs with 11 each.
Atu-Asi’s Meng Yamada recorded the most strikeouts with 16, while Bego Camacho prevailed in the pitching race wth her 2.15 ERA.
The Hitters’ Felisa Brel, who also pitched for her team, won the Coach of the Year award, while Sakudi’s Ed Mendiola was named Manager of the Year.
In the team awards, Atu-Asi went home with the Sportsmanship Award in the women’s division, while Haga T took the same trophy for the men’s division.
Sakudi and Brotherhood claimed the pennant championship trophies.
League organizer Brian Adelbai thanked MARPAC and other sponsors for their support to the annual league.
