The Division of Immigration has recently released a notice of proposed amendments to the CNMI immigration rules and regulations. The most important amendment is the proposal to allow for two-year permits in selected categories such as immediate relatives of U.S. citizens and permanent residents, foreign students and foreign investors. However, this two-year permitting is not available for immediate relatives of the FAS citizens. These amendments are set to take effect in January 2009.

FAS citizens with alien spouses should submit a request to the Division of Immigration to include their immediate relatives.

In view of this, the United Workers Movement, NMI is holding a meeting for all the FAS citizens with alien spouses this Nov. 16, 2008 at 5pm. Venue will be announced later.

For more details, interested parties may contact Irene Tantiado at 285 7717 or Rabby Syed at 285 3306. (PR) Vendors for Carolinian Utt
