Beaujolais Nouveau, the fresh, fruity red wine from France, arrives on Saipan this Thursday. Beaujolais Nouveau is a special wine because it is released only once a year, on the third Thursday of November, around the world.

Beaujolais Nouveau (pronounced bow-joe-lay noo-vo) literally means “new”—nouveau means “new” in French—and Beaujolais is the wine produced in Burgundy France, using Gamay Noir grapes.

The taste of the wine is fresh and easy-to-drink. This is because, unlike other wines, Beaujolais Nouveau wines are not aged—the grapes are picked, fermented into wine, bottled, and shipped around the world in the same harvest.

The result of the speedy bottling process is a fruity red wine that appeals to everyone.

Beaujolais Nouveau pairs well with grilled or roasted meats, a variety of pastas, salads and cheeses. It is excellent with light or dark meats, and is particularly nice when served with turkey. It would be an excellent accompaniment to a traditional Thanksgiving brunch or dinner. The wine should be served slightly cool, around 55°F.

Celebrate the festive season by sampling Beaujolais Nouveau from the French wineries of Georges Duboeuf or Antonin Rodet at the following venues, beginning Nov. 20:

-Aqua Resort Club Saipan

-Casa Urashima

-Country House Restaurant

-Fiesta Resort Saipan
