Hotel worker hurt in armed robbery
A female employee of a hotel in Gualo Rai was injured when a regular customer allegedly robbed her at knifepoint inside the establishment early yesterday morning.
The victim, a Chinese, suffered a small cut in her right pinky. Medics treated her at the scene.
Police officer Jason Tarkong said a patrol officer later arrested the suspect, Scott Quichocho Santos, 27, in Susupe.
Santos was arrested for robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Tarkong said that police received a 911 disturbance call yesterday at 2:04am at the Park Villa Hotel in Gualo Rai, formerly called the Honeymoon Motel.
Preliminary investigation showed that Santos, who is a regular customer of Park Villa Hotel, had asked the victim for some towels. The victim returned with the items, but Santos suddenly ran up to her outside the room and grabbed her by the neck, Tarkong said.
The suspect wrapped one of the towels around her neck to strangle her. At the same time, he held a knife to the victim’s stomach and dragged her toward the room.
The victim struggled as Santos repeatedly shouted at her to give him money. The hotel employee opened her waist pouch and threw the money on the floor.
Santos released her to pick up the money. The victim ran and hid in another room.
When the victim heard the suspect’s car leaving the area, she called her supervisor, who then contacted police.
Police Officer Norbert Mettao obtained a description of the suspect, his car, and its license plate, as recorded in the hotel.
An all-points bulletin was put out over the police radio with the description of the suspect, the car, and license plate.
At 3:30am, Police Officer Chris Leon Guerrero spotted the vehicle in Susupe near the intersection going to Susupe Lake. Leon Guerrero followed the car and pulled it over near Family Market. The officer detained Santos.
Officer Mettao arrived at the site with the victim, who identified Santos as the same person who robbed her.
Santos allegedly admitted to another police officer that he robbed the victim because he needed the money. Approximately $80 was stolen from the victim.
Police said evidence, including a knife, was secured at the scene and processed by the crime scene technician.
