Elected attorney general

With our now growing and diverse population, the need to elect our attorney general is more than ever a justified proposal. We need to give our community the confidence that we can prosecute wrongdoers regardless of their positions and family ties. Turning a blind eye toward certain unlawful and improper conduct of certain individuals because of political and family ties should have no place in our island community. We also need not fear any abuse of power by our elected AG. There will be a check; the individual elected will be politically accountable to protect us and her/his prosecutorial zeal will not be without a scrutiny. I supported a proposal to elect our AG as a member of the 1985 Second Constitutional Convention; I continue to do so, and now more strongly than ever. We have several dynamic lawyers who are qualified for the position of attorney general.
