The incoming President and Vice President of the Republic of Palau will arrive on Saipan this Sunday morning for a victory party with their constituents here.

Consul Eileen Kintol of the Palau Consulate in the CNMI said that President-elect Johnson Toribiong and Vice President-elect Kerai Mariur will be here to extend their appreciation to Palauans on Saipan who supported them during the elections.

The venue has yet to be finalized. Kintol said they might hold it at the Minatchom Atdao or at the American Memorial Park.

Toribiong and Mariur held their final rally on Saipan.

The tandem did well in garnering absentee votes from Saipan, Guam and Hawaii.

They got a total vote of 5,040, just barely ahead of the tandem of outgoing VP Elias Camsek Chin and Alan Seid, who garnered 4,828 votes.

Toribiong, an attorney and former diplomat, and Mariur, currently a member of Palau’s House of Delegates, will be sworn in on Jan. 15, 2009.

Two days before the Nov. 1 absentee voting on Saipan, Toribiong and Mariur held their final rally at the Garapan Fishing Base in front of Kristo Rai Church.

Mariur was also seen at the Marianas High School gates until the last absentee voter cast his vote.

The tandem campaigned for preservation of the “true Palauan spirit” and promised to prioritize the younger Palauan generation in government programs.

They also vowed to encourage sustainable investments, expand investments in undeveloped islands, public health programs, keeping traditions and customs intact, preserving the dignity of senior citizens, affordable housing, maintaining good relations with the international community, and a transparent leadership.
