New CCLPC members to elect officers this weekend
The newly appointed members of the Chamorro Carolinian Language Policy Commission will be electing their officers this weekend, Dec. 13.
CCLPC executive director Dave R. Omar said the meeting would be held at the Office on Aging starting at 9am.
Omar said this would be the first time the eight members will gather together as a team.
They will be choosing among themselves the chairman, vice chairman, secretary and treasurer.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial appointed eight members to the commission two months ago.
These include six from Saipan: Vivian Odoshi, Vincent Ray Marehan, Rosa R. Warakai, William I. Macaranas, Ben Borja, and Maria Mafnas. Two other members, Angelina C. Fitial and Tita Hocog, represent Tinian and Rota, respectively.
Before the organizational meeting and election of officers, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Cecilia Taitano-Celes will be delivering a special message while Omar will give an overview of the commission’s programs.
Omar said the new members would also discuss and plan the commission’s immediate and long-term plans.
The commission is set to review the new Public Law 15-96, which repealed and re-enacted Chapter 2 Division I title 3 of the Commonwealth Code pertaining to the Chamorro Carolinian Language Policy Commission.
