Toyota, Nissan, Mazda are Top 3 makes in 2008
Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda finished as the Top 3 makes of automobiles on Saipan , last year selling 269, 82, and 58 units, respectively.
Sold by Microl Corp., 178 Toyota cars, 15 trucks, 12 vans, and 164 sports utility vehicles were sold in the period from January-December 2007.
Saipan drivers, meanwhile, drove off with 35 cars, 17 trucks, one van, and 29 SUVs made by Nissan last year. Joeten Motors distributes Nissan locally.
Mazda automobiles sold by Triple J Motors, meanwhile, were broken down as follows: 37 cars, seven trucks, four vans, and 10 SUVs.
Other makes of cars sold in 2008, with the number of units sold, are the following: Ford (45), Honda (41), Hyundai (31), Kia (24), Mitsubishi (20), Chevrolet (14), Blue Bird (6), and Suzuki (5).
Microl Corp. sells Chevrolet, while Joeten Motors sells Ford, Honda, and Kia. Triple J Motors sells Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Blue Bird, and Suzuki.
In all, CADA experienced a 5.85-percent decrease in new car sales in 2008 as it sold 595 units compared to 632 in 2007.
In related news, the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association also sold a total of 371 used cars last year. Microl Corp. sold the most second-hand units with 141, followed by Joeten Motors with 122, and Triple J Motors with 108.
For December 2008, CADA sold 27 used cars with Microl Corp. selling 11 and Joeten Motors and Triple J eight apiece.
