Manucdoc, Hamoy top USSP pool
Ed Manucdoc was the champion in USS Peleliu Club’s first 8-ball tournament of the new year last Monday, while Chester Hamoy took Tuesday’s 9-ball title.
Hamoy topped Ken Phillips, then eked out close 3-2 wins over Rolly Villanueva and Brian Melvis for first place. Phillips had eliminated Rommel Usi.
Villanueva began with a win over Annie Tesiro, then defeated Amor Zapata to move on. Zapata had beaten Taylor Watanabe.
Melvis beat Eric Mahinay and got a back-and-forth 3-2 victory over Ron Chisato. Chisato had won his match with Primo Rivera.
Manucdoc lost his first game to Watanabe in Monday’s 8-ball tourney, then marched back through the losers’ bracket with wins over John Mongami, Phillips and Watanabe. He took two games from Villanueva for the title.
Villanueva had sent Phillips and Watanabe to the losers’ bracket.
Phillips bested Mongami in the winners’ bracket before falling to Villanueva, got by Melvis and fell to Manucdoc.
Watanabe defeated Melvis and Manucdoc, but couldn’t get past Villanueva and a rematch with Manucdoc.
The previous week, Juancho Mendoza took the 8-ball money, while Melvis won in 9-ball. Mongami was second both nights.
There is a $5 entry fee for the Monday 8-ball tournaments, while Tuesday’s 9-ball has a $10 entry. Both contests start at 8pm.
All drinks are at happy hour prices for the tournaments. “We’re also dropping the price of a game from $1.50 to $1 for the new year,” said Phillips.
