Frank Sablan is January Ace
Frank Sablan welcomed 2009 with a bang after winning the Amigos Club of Saipan’s January Ace last Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo.
Sablan carded a net score of 68 last weekend and that, combined with the 69 he shot last Jan. 11 during the qualifier, gave him a two-round total of 137.
Joe Sablan Sr. and John Guerrero were hot on Frank Sablan’s heels but came four strokes short with an identical total of 141. Rounding out the Top 4 was lady golfer Sherlyn Jones, who managed a 145.
The club is planning to hold a best-ball format tournament on Feb. 1 at the Marianas Country Club.
The revived Amigos Golf Club is led by president Ed Manglona and vice president Joe Sablan Jr. Other officials are: secretary Terry Attao; treasurer Lorraine Babauta; public information officer Pete Leon Guerrero, and tournament director Syl Ada.
Its board of directors include Ben Jones, Manny Blas, Joe Lizama, Frank Guerrero, Joe Tudela, and John M. Guerrero.
According to its website (www.amigosgolf.webs.com), the mission of the Amigos Golf Club is to foster friendship and camaraderie between friends, both men and women, who share the passion for the game of golf.
It said the new club is a spinoff of the old Amigos Club, but continues to be a venue for fellowship between friends or amigos.
The club plays every Sunday in accordance with the schedule, except when prevented by other conflicting events. Club members vie for the coveted monthly ace which is determined by the best net score between the qualifying game and the ace game held during each month.
Amigos Golf Club also holds an annual Ace of Aces Tournament that expects to crown the Club Champion from among the 12 monthly aces.
Its motto is: “Play hard and play fair.” (PR)
