A man accused of letting a deportee use his passport has pleaded guilty in federal court to the charge of misuse of a passport.

Minghao Yin, 27, signed a plea agreement with the U.S. government and entered a guilty plea.

U.S. District Court for the NMI designated judge David A. Wiseman accepted Yin’s plea and set the sentencing for April 7 at 9am.

Wiseman allowed Yin’s temporary release on his own recognizance.

The U.S. government on Tuesday filed an information that charged the defendant with one count of misuse of a passport.

The Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that on Aug. 16, 2008, the defendant delivered his passport to Jiang Zhejun for the latter’s use.

That same day, local authorities escorted Zhejun to Saipan International Airport for his scheduled deportation.

Zhejun posed as Yin using Yin’s passport. After checking in at the airport and evading his escort, Zhejun met Yin at or near the airport.

Zhejun then gave back to Yin his passport. Yin then attempted to leave Saipan on the same flight Zhejun was to board.
