Is government killing our people?

Let me briefly explain the subject. I have noticed the decline of safety markings and lighting on our roads. I went to the spot where a man was killed on Beach Road, close to the high school. The road was so dark you could not see anyone standing beside or on the road. Why were the street lights not working?

Many roads lack a center line, for example Isa Road, parts of Middle Road, Airport Road, there are many others! The center lines are lacking on curves, the most dangerous place. The lack of center lines is a cause of head-on crashes, the deadliest kind of accident. Also, the required lines at the roads’ edge, crossings, and directional markers are almost all gone. These are safety issues that must be dealt with. How much does paint cost, the life of a family member?

For example, go through the intersection of Isa and Middle roads at night. Did you notice that there is only one dim light at that intersection? It is hard to know where to make your turn because you cannot see the road markings, some of which are also missing. People also stand beside the road there and are very difficult to see at night.

My conclusion is the government does not care enough about the people to protect them from road accidents. These accidents kill people. Who will take responsibility?? Government should set priorities and fund the basic needs of the people and safety is a No. 1 responsibility. I do not want to hear “There is no money”; that is a cop out!

We must tell the legislators and governor to stop spending money on “feel good” things just to get votes and to start taking care of our people’s lives.

I am just waiting for the next person to get killed because of government’s failure to provide basic safety. Who will it be? If a legislator’s child or spouse gets killed, perhaps they will pay attention.
