Sablan tops in batting, Camacho is No. 1 pitcher

B.J. Sablan of Beach Boys currently leads all batters, while Roque Camacho of Freedom Air is the leader in pitching in the 2008-2009 Budweiser Inter-Government/Business Softball League, according to the latest individual standings released by league statistician Liz Palacios.

Sablan went 26-for-34 at bat for an amazing .765 clip, but Beach Boys are only good for sixth place with nine wins and three losses. He is the only player from his team included in the Top 15 in battling.

As of Feb. 9, Payton Sakuma of Docomo is running second by averaging .737 with his 28 hits in 38 at bats. Docomo is in third place in the overall team standings with its 10-4 win-loss record.

Department of Community and Cultural Affairs remained undefeated after 14 games in the 20-team field and is the team with the most number of players included in the batting leaders spearheaded by pitcher Mel Sakisat.

Sakisat ranks third with his .702 (33-for-47) while teammate Jun Saralu is in eighth place with his .644 (29-for-41). DCCA’s Julian Camacho and Joey Dela Cruz are tied in ninth to 10th places with an identical average .636 (28-for-44).

Dela Cruz and Camacho lead the league in home plate-crossings with 28 runs each. Sakisat and Tyrone Omar have 26, while Peter Teigita, Payton Sakuma, and Jerry Ayuyu had 24 each.

Dela Cruz is also the co-leader in homeruns with 11, the same number posted by Byron Kaipat. Julian Camacho has eight, B.J. Sablan and Roy Celis have seven, while Manny Sablan and Reno Celis have six apiece.

Ned Norita of No Zone is fourth in batting with .677 (21-for-31) but his team is in seventh place with a 9-4 card.

Freedom Air’s Roy Celis is in fifth spot with .676 (24-38) and the team occupies the fifth position in the team standings at 9-2.

Byron Kaipat of second-ranked Commonwealth Ports Authority averages .658 (25-for-38) to stay in sixth place in batting percentage. He is also leading the RBI department with 36, one ahead of Julian Camacho’s 35. Joey Dela Cruz (31), Payton Sakuma (29), Roy Celis, B.J. Sablan, Jerry Ayuyu, and Pete Teigita all have 25 RBIs.

Legislature’s Tony Celis is 11th in batting average with his .634 (260-for-41), while Vinnie Sablan of Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is 12th with his .633 (19-for-30), Reno Celis of Freedom Air is 13th with .632 (24-for-38), Jack Diaz of CPA with .630 (17-for-27), and Kyle Kaipat of POI with .621 (18-for-29).

Tony Lizama currently is leading the doubles category with nine, followed by Clifton Sillil and J.J. Laniyo with eight apiece. Jun Saralu has seven, while Pete Teigita, Tony Celis, Byron Kaipat, J.R. Suel, and Roy Celis have six each.

Ben Taisacan is the leader in triples with five, while Pete Teigita and Tyrone Omar have four with eight players getting three each.

Freedom Air’s Roque Camacho is leading all pitchers with his 2.51 earned run average. He pitched 39 innings in eight games, giving up 34 runs with 14 errors and allowing 56 hits.

Teammates Pete Towai and Perry Besong are ranked second and third, respectively, with ERAs of 3.71 and 4.22.

Rounding out the Top 10 are Mel Sakisat of DCCA (4.30), Donald Pangelinan of CPA (4.45), Ed Mendiola of CPA (4.67), Frank Shiro of CUC (4.74), John Terlaje of PSS (4.88), Carl Hocog of No Zone (4.97), and Mike Sablan of P&S (5.25).
