New restroom, concrete pathway now being built at Micro Beach
By June, residents and tourists may be able to use the new Micro Beach restroom and concrete pathway that are under construction at the American Memorial Park in Garapan.
GPPC Inc. bagged the estimated $300,000 construction contract, according to Cesar Munar, a site supervisor of GPPC Inc.
Munar said the project was originally targeted to be completed this month but because of permitting requirements and the rain, the completion date was pushed back to around June.
“This place would be a lot better by then,” Munar told Saipan Tribune yesterday as he was inspecting progress at the construction site.
The project involves the demolition and replacement of the old restroom, and the construction of about 500 feet of concrete pathway connecting the Micro Beach pavilion and the new restroom, the size of which is about 25 feet by 25 feet.
“The restroom will have a solar-paneled roof, and the concrete pathway will be 8 feet wide,” Munar added. Concrete pouring will start today.
American Memorial Park’s Micro Beach is one of the most popular beach sites for picnics, swimming, windsurfing and other marine sports on Saipan. Erosion has taken its toll on the white sandy beach, which was one of the reasons why the old Micro Beach restroom, which was just a few steps from the water, had to be demolished.
