Two-time defending champion Jets virtually won the Senior League pennant of the 2009 Saipan Little League following its 12-0 drubbing of Lion King last Sunday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” M. Palacios Ballfield.

It was the fifth consecutive win for the Jets as they avenged a 0-9 defeat to the Lion King in the two teams’ last meeting on March 21.

That loss snapped the Jets’ eight-game winning streak.

With the victory last Sunday, the Jets widened their gap from the rest of the field with a 13-1 win-loss mark.

Last Saturday, the Jets nailed their most difficult win, a 7-6 victory over the Fielders.

The Jets piled up seven runs after three innings and held the Fielders scoreless after six full innings.

The Fielders scored six runs in the top of seventh with two outs before Jets reliever Harry Nakamura took the third out via a 4-3 play.

They have two remaining games before the playoff round but even if they lose both, they are already assured of the pennant.

The Jets will meet Ol’Aces on April 19 and the San Roque D-9ers on April 25.

Team manager Derron Flores is optimistic of the Jets’ chances for a three-peat.

At the forefront of the highly motivated team are John Salas, Lincoln Ingram, Toby Fleming, Eli Aughenbaugh, Tomas Camacho, A.J. Calvo, Juan Taitano, Marvin Ngeskebei, and Joe Palacios.

The substitutes include Justin Kintol, Josh Jones, Harry Nakamura, Chris Meyers, and Keoni Lizama.

The coaching staff is composed of head coach Vinnie Sablan and his assistant Juan Tenorio.

The Jets sponsors are Juan S. Tenorio of JET Holdings, Jim Gebhard of Pacific Amusement, and MegaByte Saipan.

Also last Sunday the D-9ers posted an easy 13-2 victory over Ol’Aces.

The win was the D-9ers’ second straight and they are now tied with the Fielders in second place with identical 8-5 win-loss records.

The D-9ers also scored a lopsided victory over the Lion King, 13-3, last Saturday.
