The Department of Lands and Natural Resources is proposing to remove the Tinian monarch from the list of CNMI locally designated endangered and threatened species.

The proposal is listed on the recently released March Commonwealth Register. The public can comment through the end of April.

The removal of the bird from the list is consistent with the removal of the species from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s list of endangered and threatened wildlife and plants.

The Tinian monarch was removed from the Fish and Wildlife list effective Sept. 21, 2004.
