Three earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.7, 4.9, and 5.0 on the Richter scale hit Rota Friday afternoon and evening.

The temblors did not pose a tsunami threat to the Marianas and no damage to property or injuries were reported, said Emergency Management Office acting director Mark S. Pangelinan.

Saipan Tribune talked with many Rota residents yesterday who said they did not feel the earthquakes.

Rota resident Dolores R. Agulto said she was pushing a baby walker Friday afternoon when she saw the walker rocking. She said she was not even aware that there were earthquakes.

Some Rota store employees said they did not feel the earthquakes.

EMO said the first earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.7, occurred at 4:17pm at a depth of 6 miles. It was centered about 80 miles west-southwest of Saipan and 130 miles southwest of Anatahan.

The second one at 4.9 magnitude occurred at 9:19pm at a depth of 65 miles northwest of Rota. This time, it was centered about 85 miles west-southwest of Saipan and 130 miles southwest of Anatahan.

The last one at 5.0 magnitude happened at 9:50pm at a depth of 65 miles northwest of Rota, about 90 miles southwest of Saipan and 130 miles southwest of Anatahan.
