Spring beach volleyball league opens next month
Beach volleyball action will be back on Saipan after a month-long break with the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association holding the 2009 PIC-Miller/Gatorade Spring 4-Person Beach Volleyball League next month.
The last time NMIVA brought beach volleyball action on island was in March with the staging of the 17th Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival.
The Marianas Cup featured pros from the U.S., Korea, and Japan teaming up with local players in a two-person tournament.
Next month’s four-person league will have local bets battling each other at the Pacific Islands Club sand court.
A draft banquet will be held this Thursday to have a balance competition.
The league will have its first game on May 5 and the regular season will end on June 11.
Playoffs will start on June 12. Format and schedule will be announced later.
NMIVA last hosted a 4-person beach volleyball league in October, holding the 2008 Miller Lite Four-Person Beach Volleyball Fall League
Acme Roofing ruled the fall league after beating Enyophace in the title match, 15-21, 21-17, 15-10.
Acme Roofing topped Thai One On in the semifinals to gain the first finals slot. Enyophace defeated Karakuchi in the other semis duel to set the stage for the title showdown between the top two teams in the league. Enyophace finished second to Acme Roofing in the regular season with a 9-1 slate.
