Former Senate president Juan S. Demapan announced Tuesday that he is seeking the nomination as the candidate for mayor of Saipan under the Covenant Party for this November elections.

Demapan believes he possesses the attributes necessary to best serve the people of Saipan, based on long years of public and private sector service, technical education, and “love of the Mariana Islands and its people.

Demapan served in the CNMI first Constitutional Convention in 1976; in 1992-1996, he was a senator and Senate president. In 2005, he ran for Washington Representative under Covenant Party but lost.

He claimed that in recent Covenant party gatherings in Precinct 2 and in San Antonio, the leaders and voters there were very enthusiastic about his interest to serve as the next Saipan mayor.

Demapan says his primary mission if he get elected is to use of the Office of the Mayor to assist in the training and employment of all unemployed CNMI citizens who are able and willing to work; to beautify and landscape all roads and highways on Saipan; to help reduce the cost of electric power for all people; and to help reduce the cost of consumer goods and petroleum fuel.

“As the next of Mayor of Saipan, I am committed to making Saipan first again, where no ones is left behind. It is all about making Saipan and its people first,” he said. (PR)
