Jun Pan cited for Humanities contributions
The NMI Council for the Humanities honored outgoing board member Herman T. Guerrero at a dinner ceremony Monday evening.
Guerrero, better known as “Jun Pan,” was first elected to the Council’s board in June 1992 and served until June 2001. He was re-elected to the board in May 2003 and completed his second three-year term last week. He served as the board’s chair for seven terms during his 15 years with the Council.
During the ceremony, board and staff members presented Guerrero with a plaque recognizing his many years of dedicated service to the Council and his untiring efforts to foster the humanities in the Commonwealth.
Monday’s ceremony was not the first time Guerrero was recognized for his contributions to the humanities.
In 2002 Guerrero was presented the National Humanities Award by President Bill Clinton at a special ceremony in Washington D.C. and last year he was honored for his contributions to preserving CNMI History during the annual Governor’s Humanities Awards Ceremony.
Guerrero said he would continue his support of the humanities by strengthening the collaborative relationship between the Council and the Public School System.
The Council is a private, non-profit corporation with 501 (c) (3) tax status established in 1991. It provides a variety of educational initiatives and humanities programs to lifelong learners in the community.
