Two blowout lopsided in Blue Haus caging
Sherwin Williams and Wings Travel routed their respective foes, as the Blue Haus Invitational Basketball League’s nears the end of its regular season at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.
B Bracket’s Sherwin Williams ran over Joeten Superstore, 91-71, last Thursday, while A Bracket’s Wings romped 8th Division, 86-68, back on Wednesday.
The playoffs begin Sunday night with C Bracket’s Cell Pro taking on Lyn’s BBQ at 6pm, followed by A Bracket’s Inchcape against Star Water at 8pm in Gualo Rai.
Sherwin Williams took an early 20-13 lead in the first quarter of Thursday’s opener. Victor Mallari paced the squad with eight points in the opening frame.
Sherwin Williams then stretched its margin to a baker’s dozen, 40-27, at halftime. Mallari passed the torch to teammate Jun Tabora who delivered 12 points in the surge.
Joeten found a few baskets from a number of players, but lacked a leader to take charge on offense.
The search continued for Joeten as both teams traded baskets in the third quarter, shifting the count to 58-45, in favor of Sherwin Williams heading into the final canto. Tabora and Dado Vistal hooked up for 14 points in the period.
Joeten appeared deflated in the fourth as Sherwin Williams’s shooters remained on point. With the lead, Sherwin Williams knocked down four 3-pointers in the clutch for good measure.
Tabora led the field with 31 markers, while Joeten’s Rodney Sacramento managed a team-high of just 13 in the loss.
In Wednesday’s late match, 8th Division drained a trio of early long balls, but still trailed Wings Travel, 18-15, in the opening 10 minutes. Wings Travel’s Nate Mateo starred in the early push with five markers.
Wings Travel then tightened up its defense as it trudged ahead, 41-25, at the half.
8th Division’s offense turned to stone in the second quarter aside from a couple of late 3-pointers by Joseph Pena.
Wings Travel kept its foot on the gas after the break and maintained a daunting 62-40 advantage after three quarters and then shifted into cruise control for the final 10 minutes.
Mateo led the flock with an even 20 points, while 8th Division’s Pena topped the field with 21 in defeat.
