At least three helicopters were seen hovering over Saipan Thursday and Friday, but no one could confirm whether it is a Drug Enforcement Administration marijuana eradication operation.

Saipan Tribune contacted DEA’s office on Saipan Thursday afternoon but the person who answered the phone said nobody was there to respond to media inquiries.

Guam-CNMI resident agent-in-charge Michael Puralewski did not return an email inquiry as of press time.

Press secretary Angel Demapan said he has not confirmed with DEA whether the helicopters were part of DEA’s marijuana eradication operation.

In the past, DEA would use helicopters to search for and confiscate marijuana plants on Saipan and Tinian.
